Real Madrid Vs Shaktar Donetsk: The Starting 11

The upcoming match is against Shaktar Donetsk at home in the first match of Champions league group stage. The last Real Madrid game was against Cadiz which was a 0-1 loss, first in 2 seasons. The performance of the team was a dismal one.

The team rating for the match against Cadiz can be found here: Team Rating

Coach Comments:
  • There was a lot missing in the last game.
Other Comments:
  • To be updated.
Squad Updates:

This will be their first European game of the season and Real have been missing several opportunities in the previous games, the last game's performance was really pathetic. They were unable to pass the ball properly and kept losing the possession too many times, which led their first loss. So, this game is very important. Madrid need to win this at any cost.

Shaktar has a very good attack and are yet to lose any game in the Ukranian league, so Real will have to be extra careful.

In the goal Courtois will start, he has been in a good form in the last games and needs to keep the same going.

Marcelo was poor in the last game, Mendy will be the option on the left.Ramos and Varane will start as the center backs, though Ramos had a knee injury bur should be ready by the time game starts. Carvajal and Odriozola are both injured and so on the right either Nacho or Militao are the options for ZZ. So Mendy, Varane, Ramos and Militao should start. Defence was good except for some switching off leading to the goals in the last few games. This time defence has to be very careful especially against a fast attack of Shaktar.

Modric seemed exhausted in the last game, but should be fit for this game. Valverde was good among the bad ones last game and should start. Kroos was poor but played almost 90 minutes and will start again. Casemiro is a certain especially with a shoddy defence. So it is going to be Modric, Casemiro, Kroos and Valverde in the middle.

In the attack Hazard is missing and it will be too early for him to start even if he is fit. So, Vinicius is the only option on the left but after is poor performance last game might cause Jovic to come in his place to have a front two. Benzema will be the main striker. So this time ZZ will go for a front two of Jovic and Benzema.

As there are 5 substitutions available, ZZ should think for more rotations in the second half.

The probable substitutions will be:

Jovic/Benzema > Vinicius
Mendy > Marcelo
Valverde/Modric > Rodrygo/Asensio
Kroos > Isco

So the formation would be 4 4 2.

The most probable kit to be used for the Shaktar game will be the home kit !!!

So the final starting 11 will be:

Real Madrid vs Manchester City: The Starting 11

Before going into the next Match I will rate the performance of players in the last game vs Levante. Benzema: 3/10, Only misses and bad finishes, final third game play missing. Hazard: 4/10, created a few chances, missed a sure 1 on 1 chance, got injured again Isco: 5/10, too much 1-2 passes and final third game play missing, need to release quicker. Good distribution outside the box. Modric: 7/10, did his bit, created ample chances, could have pressed better for the goal, but was surely a wonder strike  Casemiro: 8/10, did all he was supposed to do, took a yellow when required, made his presence felt in the attack as well, could have headed it home but missed. Kroos: 6/10, good first half, lacked the precision in the second half and after the goal seemed lost. Seemed he was out of gas. Marcelo: 7/10, did very well to be honest, some defensive lapses were there but with the amount of offensive positioning it is expected. Need to get better in crossing than this but hardly ...
