Real Madrid Vs Borussia Mönchengladbach: The Starting 11

The upcoming match against Borussia Mönchengladbach is a home game in the Champions league match day 6. The last Real Madrid game was against Sevilla which was the okay performance under pressure. This was pathetic display by the forwards other departments were good and just managed to win with an forced own goal. The forwards missed several chances, midfield created and controlled the game well, defense was not bad and goalkeeping was solid.

The team rating for the match against Sevilla can be found here: Team Rating

This is the last game of the group stage and Real have no option but to win this to qualify. Its a do and die game.

If Real win then they will qualify
  • but if Shaktar wins they will finish top and real will go second
  • but if Shaktar draws or losses Real will finish top
If Real draws they will depend on other games, Borussia will finish top
  • If Inter wins then Real qualify second in the group. Any other result and Real will crash out.

Looking at the

Injury list:
  1. Valverde
  2. Hazard
  3. Carvajal
  4. Mariano
Suspended:
  1. None

Just recovered:

  1. Ramos
  2. Odriozola
  3. Militao
  4. Jovic

Skipped Practice:
  • None
Coach Comments:
  • I congratulate the players because it is not easy to win here.
Other Comments:
  • Again there is Odriozola back so he should start as a right back.

Squad Updates:

This will be the sixth game of the Champions league season and Real had one of the worst performances in the recent past, last game was an improvement in all departments but forwards are still missing several chances. But now its time to improve, this game is a do or die and would decide the chances of progressing to next round. Madrid needs to win this at any cost.

Borussia has a very fast attack and their counters are too good. So, Real will have to be extremely careful on the break and need to have a plan for these.

In the goal Courtois will start, he has been very poor in the last few games, his errors have cost several points but he has shown signs of improvement. Things can only go better from here.

Mendy is the only option on the left. Carvajal and Odriozola are recovering. Odriozola might get a nod to start. Ramos is now fit so, Ramos and Varane will start as the center backs. So Mendy, Ramos, Varane and Odriozola should start. Defence has been poor but signs are positive when Marcelo is not playing. Hopefully they will contain the lapses and there would not be any more errors.

Modric has been good and should start. Real needs to get the control back in the mid field. Casemiro was not great in the previous games, but should start but he needs to improve a lot. Kroos, Modric, Casemiro should start. Ødegaard and Isco will start from the bench.

The forwards have been mis-firing even now, Benzema has returned but he is doing everything well except finishing. Hazard is eternally injured and not available to start. Vinicius was better in offence but as usual his finishing needs to improve. Rodrygo was not great but seems to provide a bit of edge going forward. So Vinicius, Benzema and Rodrygo should form the front line.

As there are 5 substitutions available, ZZ should think for more rotations in the second half.

The probable substitutions will be:

Modric > Isco
Kroos > Ødegaard
Mendy > Marcelo
Rodrygo > Asensio
Benzema > Jovic

So the formation would be 4 3 3

The most probable kit to be used for the game will be the home kit !!!

So the final starting 11 will be:

Carvajal comes in for Odriozola

The Starting 11: Best team for the first quarter Real Madrid

Real Madrid have completed 9 matches in the La liga, which is approximately 25% of the campaign. And they have played 3 matches in Champion's league which has a maximum of 13 matches to win it. Effectively 25% of the season is over. The standings are as follows, 2nd in the league behind Barcelona, having played most of the top teams except Barcelona. If they continue the same momentum they have a good chance in the league, and just to point they have done so with several injuries. Real has lost just one match but overall performance needs improvement So the future seems bright, the team needs more consistency in defence and goal keeping. In the champion's league they are second behind PSG, who have a 100% win record. One desperate win, one tough draw and a bad loss, the shape of the team is not great. They will qualify it seems but given the easy group, things are not smooth for sure. But going ahead their solid performance is what is required. In the competitio...

Shaktar Donetsk Vs Real Madrid: The Starting 11

The upcoming match against Shaktar Donetsk is an away game in the Champions league match day 5.  The last Real Madrid game was against Alaves which was the worst performance of the season. This was pathetic display in every department leading to a dismal loss. It was the 1st home defeat to Alaves in 20 years, says volumes about the teams display. The team had 20 shots, of which 9 were on target and only 1 goal which meant the intensity in attack was totally missing. The team rating for the match against Alaves can be found here:  Team Rating This is the fifth game of the group stage and Real have no option but to win this for their fans and for themselves and to keep their chance of progression alive. The upcoming match is against Valencia away from home, currently they are at 8th and Real are 2nd on the leader-board.
